The Berea Historical Society and Mahler Museum, named for business owners and benefactors Otto and Mabel Mahler, opened in 1979. The Society’s resources and collections capture the spirit of the town’s past. The site of the society, the Buehl house, is a historic landmark, having been built of Berea sandstone in 1854. The Resource Center offers extensive archives and the History Center Room, used for special events, also has exhibits, including quarry artifacts, a 1898 gasoline-powered car, Gray’s Candy Kitchen, and stained glass windows from the Berea Children’s Home original chapel.
