The land for the African American Cultural Garden was dedicated on October 23, 1977. It is a 4 acre site extending from Wheelock Ave. to MLK Blvd. It is one of 38 Gardens to be enjoyed in the Cleveland Cultural Garden Federation. The African American Garden is being built in phases and will represent the African American journey—past, present, and future—beginning with departure from Africa through the “Doorway and Corridor of No Return”. The first phase has been constructed and was dedicated in 2016. Groundbreaking for the remainder of the monument will occur in 2022.
