Built in 1836, the Kirtland Temple is the oldest Latter Day Saint temple. Today, it is a National Historic Landmark toured by thousands annually. Though many visit on a spiritual pilgrimage, our interpreters present the Temple within a historical framework. All are welcome to experience the Temple’s history and significance—as an unparalleled nineteenth-century house of worship, and the only Mormon temple open to the public. Tours begin at our Visitor Center, which houses a museum and mercantile. The Community of Christ (formerly RLDS) owns and operates the Kirtland Temple Historic Site
