This 1871 Second Empire Italianate Mansion was built by John Henry and Susan Youngker Hower. It has an architecturally significant floor plan, based on the "Akron Plan" for churches. The historic house museum has 28 rooms, filled with an eclectic array of furnishings, textiles, and objects collected by the Howers over three generations during their world travels. The Museum is owned by The University of Akron and located on campus near downtown Akron. HHM is open for tours, exhibits, events, programs. The Carriage House is undergoing renovation with plans to reopen late summer 2019.
